Volumes surge in October at Leipzig/Halle Airport

Leipzig/Halle Airport continues to see freight volumes surge in October, which was driven by the express freight market.

The airport handled 88,336 tonnes – a 10.1 per cent rise on the same month last year and says it is a new monthly record for the month.

“The growth is particularly due to express freight, for which Leipzig/Halle is one of the most important handling centres in Europe,” the German airport explains.

For the first 10 months of the year, freight volumes have grown by 8.6 per cent reaching 812,060 tonnes.

Leipzig/Halle Airport is ranked the fifth busiest airfreight hub by volumes in Europe and it handled more than 910,700 tonnes of cargo in 2014.
