  • Silk Way West Airlines recently transported multiple Sprinter vehicles aboard a Boeing 747 freighter, highlighting the complexity of moving oversized cargo.
  • Alper Dogan, Key Account Manager, shared insights into the teamwork required for such an operation — from load calculations to in-aircraft securing.

Silk Way West Airlines has transported Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter vehicles on board a Boeing 747 freighter. While luxury cars are often seen on airport ramps, Alper Dogan, Key Account Manager at Silk Way West Airlines, explained that Sprinters present a very different challenge.

“Luxury cars can be transported by almost anyone — you might see some on the ramp. But when it comes to more challenging cargo like Mercedes‑Benz AG’s Sprinter, that’s a different story,” he said in a LinkedIn post.

Due to their dimensions, weight and technical specifics, Sprinters require precise planning to ensure a safe and efficient loading process. According to Dogan, the operation involved detailed load calculations, close ramp coordination and careful securing procedures inside the aircraft, where every step mattered.

“This is where true air cargo expertise shows,” he noted, adding that not every vehicle presents the same level of complexity. “Not every vehicle is a challenge — but some require know‑how, flexibility and precision.”

Dogan also thanked Werner Gorschowski, Robin Klassen, and Flughafen Frankfurt‑Hahn GmbH for their support during the operation.
