Cargo services between the US and Mexico are likely to increase following the new Air Transport Agreement coming into force.

The US and Mexico exchanged diplomatic notes bringing the Air Transport Agreement into force, with benefits including increased market access for airlines to fly between any US and Mexican city.

The agreement was signed by US Transportation Secretary, Anthony Foxx and Mexico’s Secretary of Transport, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza on 18 December 2015 and it comes into force on 21 August 2016 following four years of collaboration between the US and Mexican governments.

Foxx says: “Cargo carriers will now have expanded opportunities to provide services that were not available under the more restrictive agreement.”
