Gatwick Airport’s recovery continues in November with volumes rising by 12.2 per cent to 8,099 tonnes as long-haul services expand.

On a moving annual total, cargo volumes rose by 3.9 per cent to 77,129 tonnes as it welcomes new routes to locations across Asia, the Americas and Africa.

Connections with Asia will expand further in June 2017 when Cathay Pacific makes its four-times a week service Hong Kong to daily flights.

Gatwick Airport chief executive officer, Stewart Wingate uses Thomas Cook’s new Cape Town route as an example of the hub’s increasing importance. He says: “The very latest of these new long-haul connections Thomas Cook’s new route to Cape Town starts tomorrow – further cementing Gatwick’s position at the UK airport that serves more destinations than any other.”
