Dubai cargo grows in 2016 while Abu Dhabi falls

Cargo volumes at Dubai International Airport recovered in the last three months of 2016, while Abu Dhabi International Airport contracted 3.3 per cent to 799,868 tonnes.

In Dubai, cargo contracted in the third quarter but recovered in the last three months, pushing volumes up 3.4 per cent to 2.59 million tonnes.

Cargo grew by 5.4 per cent in December to 230,122 tonnes.

Over in Abu Dhabi, cargo was down 3.3 per cent from 827,456 tonnes in 2015 to 799,868 tonnes, and by 1.3 per cent in December to 66,126 tonnes.

Abu Dhabi Airports acting chief executive officer, Abdul Majeed Al Khoori says: “We are always looking, together with our stakeholders, for more opportunities to grow and meet the demands of our various markets.”
