Digitalisation and expansion to meet cargo demand

  • Menzies Aviation is accelerating its digital transformation and operational expansion, leveraging technology such as the MACH cargo management platform to improve coordination, transparency, and efficiency across more than 44 airports, with plans for further rollout.

Menzies Aviation is intensifying its digital transformation and expanding its operational footprint in response to evolving air cargo dynamics, pursuing technological innovation, e‑commerce logistics solutions, and strategic growth to enhance efficiency and capture market opportunities.

“Our staff expect us to be forward-facing, embracing technology across our business,” Beau Paine, Executive Vice President of Cargo at Menzies Aviation, said. “Technology is at the base of all our systems and processes, from cargo handling to yard management.”

Menzies has implemented its MACH cargo management platform across more than 44 airports worldwide, with plans to extend coverage further. The system provides a centralised hub for operational coordination, warehouse management, and data analytics, improving transparency and efficiency.

Digital tools are critical for landside operations, particularly in reducing congestion and improving turnaround times. “Making sure we can digitally transact and communicate efficiency and overall increase the value of what we do in air cargo,” he said. “People want it quick, fast and efficient, and digital technologies enable that.”

This embrace of technology was reflected in the company’s recent partnership with Nallian to deploy Truck Visit Management systems at key stations, reducing truck dwell times and streamlining cargo flows. These systems integrate directly with MACH, providing real-time visibility for drivers, forwarders, and warehouse teams. “Deploying TVM at priority stations will help us cut truck dwell time, smooth peaks, and deliver a faster, more predictable experience for our customers,” Paine noted.

e-commerce logistics and digital-first solutions

e-commerce is reshaping airfreight demand, prompting Menzies to launch MILE (Menzies Integrated Logistics for E-commerce), developed in partnership with Air Menzies International (AMI). Platforms like MILE could transform handler-forwarder relationships by creating predictable, transparent airfreight operations, particularly in time-sensitive and high-volume markets.

“By integrating Menzies’ handling excellence with forwarding capabilities, we are creating a solution that delivers real speed, visibility, and scalability for our customers,” Paine described, pointing to how the platform leverages MACH to route shipments, track barcodes, and integrate handheld devices, allowing warehouses and ground teams to process packages efficiently.

Initial trials in Sydney demonstrated improvements in speed and accuracy, and Menzies plans to roll out MILE to additional markets from late 2025. Paine emphasised that the platform is not only a service improvement but a strategic differentiator: “The speed and visibility offered by MILE respond directly to growing e-commerce volumes and customer expectations.”

Americas expansion and talent-driven growth

The United States has emerged as a key market for Menzies, prompting strategic acquisitions and senior hires. The US acquisition of G2 Secure Staff, valued at US$305 million, added cargo operations at seven airports, including Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Dallas–Fort Worth, expanding Menzies’ total US footprint to more than 110 locations.

Paine highlighted the importance of local expertise in delivering high-quality service. “People are a number-one asset,” he said. “Having individuals who know the team, the landscape, and the partners is critical for how we operate.”

The expansion aligns with Menzies’ broader strategy of scaling operations while maintaining operational consistency. The G2 acquisition will increase Menzies’ global footprint to over 350 airports and is expected to boost group revenue by roughly 20 percent, according to FY 2024 figures. “Our goal is to deliver trusted services consistently across our global network,” Paine concluded.
