Avianca Cargo mobilised 14,200 tonnes of flowers for Valentine’s Day, 6% more than the volume of flowers transported for this holiday the previous year.

The airline conducted a total of 252 flights, each with a capacity ranging between 40 and 70 tonnes, from Bogota, Medellin, and Quito, primarily to transport flowers of different varieties, including roses, carnations, and bouquets from Bogota.

Medellin exported pompons, hydrangeas, and chrysanthemums, while 2,995 tonnes of flowers, mainly roses, and gypsophila, were shipped from Quito. This season’s peak occurred on February 5 to Miami, transporting 993 tonnes with 17 flights.

Avianca Cargo’s managing director Kurt Schosinsky commented: “It is gratifying to see that our efforts during this challenging season paid off. Historically, this is the season with the highest volume of cargo transported to destinations such as Miami, San Juan, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and New York.

“We adjusted our network to fully support our customers’ growth to the maximum, meeting 100% of our promised capacity to support flower exports from Colombia and Ecuador. This season we also renovated our cold room in Miami, adapting it with the latest technology to preserve perishable products to support our customers.

“Furthermore, with the adjustments and improvements in processes, we managed to cut delivery times at destination. It was a successful season, where we observed growth levels in our indicators. Most importantly, with an excellent, committed, and dedicated team, we offered our customers a professional and reliable service thanks to the planning and synchronised collaboration of the different areas within the organisation”
