Alan O’Brien appointed Managing Director of Röhlig Ireland

  • Röhlig Logistics has appointed Alan O’Brien as Managing Director of Röhlig Ireland. He assumed the position on January 1, 2026.
  • Alan O’Brien began his career at AirOcean Ireland in December 2018 as Senior Business Development Manager.
  • Following the acquisition of AirOcean Ireland by Röhlig Logistics on January 1, 2025, he played a key role in the growth of the business and the successful integration of the Irish site into the international Röhlig network.

In his new role, Alan O’Brien will build on the strong foundation laid in recent years and continue to develop Röhlig Ireland as a scalable, customer-focused, and future-proof organisation. The focus will be on sustainable growth, strengthening and developing the existing customer portfolio, and expanding multimodal solutions and new trade lanes. A particular focus will be on the further development of air and sea freight exports and westbound Far East business. In addition, digital sales channels and customer service tools will be consistently expanded and the use of artificial intelligence will be specifically promoted where it supports operational processes and creates measurable added value for customers.

Alan O’Brien succeeds Garrett O’Brien; the two managers are not related. Garrett’s collaboration with Röhlig began in the 1980s and continued with the founding and long-standing management of AirOcean Ireland in 1997 as an agent. Since the takeover in 2025, Garrett O’Brien has led Röhlig Ireland as Managing Director and will retire at the end of April 2026.

‘Garrett O’Brien has shaped our Irish business over decades with entrepreneurial vision, personal commitment, and great loyalty, developing it into the strength that characterises it today. We would like to thank him very much for his extraordinary commitment and many years of leadership. His understanding of the market, customers, and employees, as well as his trusting cooperation, were crucial to the successful merger of AirOcean Ireland and Röhlig Logistics,’ says Ulrike Baum, Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Global Executive Board at Röhlig Logistics. ‘We wish him all the best for the next stage of his life and look back on his life’s work with great appreciation.’

Alan O’Brien will be operating as Managing Director until the end of April 2026, in close collaboration with Garrett O’Brien. This will ensure a smooth transition and continuity for customers, partners, and employees.
