Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has started its investigation into the Ethiopian Airline’s Boeing 737-400 Freighter crash, which took place at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on 10 January.
According to the GCAA, the cargo aircraft, flight ET-AQV, travelling from Togo’s capital, Lome, to Accra skidded off the runway on landing at the airport. The GCAA has set up a seven person committee, which is being chaired by an aviation safety inspector, a Captain Joshua Agyekum. The authority says the 737 was operated by ASKY Airlines.
In a statement, Ethiopian says: “[The] cause of Ethiopian 737-400, registration ET-AQV, cargo aircraft that skidded out of the runway with flat tires upon landing at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on January 10, 2015 is under investigation. The crew, after being medically checked, are now resting in their hotel.”
The GCAA adds that the committee’s terms of reference include, “investigating and coming out with the possible cause(s) of the accident, giving recommendations based on its findings, and any other issue relevant to the investigation.” The committee’s report has to be submitted to the Authortity’s director general no later than 28 February.
