Air Astana joins IATA environmental programme IEnvA

  • Air Astana has joined IATA’s IEnvA environmental certification programme, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and aligning its operations with global best practices in aviation.
  • The programme will help the airline strengthen management systems, minimise environmental risks and integrate sustainable measures across all areas through independent assessment and continuous improvement.
  • CEO Peter Forster said the move supports Air Astana’s long-term ESG strategy, complementing fleet modernisation, fuel efficiency initiatives and partnerships promoting environmental responsibility throughout its operations.

The multi-award-winning airline Air Astana is strengthening its commitment to sustainability and the conservation of natural resources by joining the IATA environmental certification program. The Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) was developed specifically for aviation. It enables airlines and other companies in the industry to identify and classify their own sustainability performance based on international standards and best practices and to make continuous progress.

Air Astana will implement a structured system to improve the company’s operations and processes with the help of IEnvA. In addition to the independent review, the programme recognises a step-by-step approach with the aim of ensuring that airlines strengthen their management systems, reduce environmental hazards and integrate sustainable practices in all areas.

“Joining IATA’s IEnvA program underlines our promise to make a valuable contribution to a more sustainable future of aviation in Kazakhstan and beyond,” said Peter Forster, CEO of Air Astana. “This step gives us access to an internationally renowned framework that measures and manages our commitment to the environment and leads to continuous improvement. This also reflects the responsibility we have towards our passengers, the international community and the planet; and it is in line with Air Astana’s long-term ESG strategy in the environmental, social and governance areas.”

Participation in the IEnvA programme also complements Air Astana’s existing initiatives. This includes, among other things, the modernisation of the fleet with the latest generation of aircraft, measures to increase operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, and ongoing cooperation with partners to promote environmental responsibility along the entire value chain of flying.
