Air Niugini has ordered four Boeing 737 MAX 8s, which it is due to start receiving in 2020.
The order was announced at the Singapore Airshow and the aircraft will add to its fleet of 737 Next Generations and Boeing 767-300ERs. Boeing says the 737 MAX uses the latest CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to improve efficiencies. The manufacturer says the 737 MAX uses 20 per cent less fuel than the first 737 Next Generations.
Air Niugini chairman, Sir Frederick Reiher says: “The superb economics of the 737 MAX will enable us to increase flight frequencies and develop into new markets which offer significant opportunities for Air Niugini.”
