Brussels Airport has seen cargo volumes fall by 2.4 per cent in January to 36,964 tonnes due to Ethiopian Cargo departing after not being able to obtain traffic rights.

Freighter traffic in total fell by 4.7 per cent to 25,244 tonnes, with full freighter dropping by 11.5 per cent to 9,545 tonnes. Integrator cargo stayed about the same at 15,699 tonnes while bellyhold rose by three per cent to 11,720 tonnes.

Ethiopian Cargo left Brussels in November due to the lack of traffic rights, moving to Maastricht Aachen Airport in the Netherlands. This had caused freighter traffic to fall by 25 per cent in the final two months of 2015. In 2015, total cargo increased by 7.8 per cent to 489,303 tonnes.
