Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport handled more aircraft than any other airport in the world in 2015, and saw its cargo tonnage levels grow.
The gateway has retained the title as the world’s busiest airport, which it has held for the last 18 years.
Last year, Atlanta handled 626,201 tonnes of cargo, which is a 4.15 per cent increase over 2014’s total of 601,270 tonnes, while the 882,497 aircraft movements in 2015 was a rise of 1.63 per cent over 2014’s total.
The US Federal Aviation Administration approved the airport’s Master Plan in 2015, enabling Atlanta to grow further over the next two decades. This expansion plan calls for construction of a sixth runway, and development of the gateway’s cargo facilities.
