Tigers Australia says it is ready for piece-level security requirements for air cargo exports after investing in new screening technology in Perth.

The equipment includes x-ray machines, two explosive trace detection units and an electro-magnetic detection machine (EMD), making Perth the only Tigers location in Australia with the capacity to conduct export screening internally.

Jason Radford, general manager of Tigers Perth says: “At the Perth facility, we operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we will also offer the service to the entire Perth airfreight market.

“This will allow export cargo screening to be completed after-hours, therefore reducing the need for customers to deliver directly to the Cargo Terminal Operator (CTO) where wait times can be in excess of six hours.”

The Perth facility will also be an accredited Regulated Air Cargo Agent, an additional legal requirement to conduct physical examinations of export cargo ahead of the nationwide changes being introduced on 1 March 2019.

The x-ray machine will allow shipments up to 1,810mm by 1,872mm to pass through the tunnel with minimal handling to speed up the processing time.

The EMD machine will enable a full skid of product to be scanned, reducing the physical handling of cargo.
