Cargo tonnage growth at HKIA slows in October to 2.3%

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw steady cargo growth in October as throughput went up by 2.3 per cent year-on-year (YOY) to 430,000 tonnes.

The freight surge last month was mainly driven by four per cent YOY growth in exports. Amongst the key trading regions, Europe increased most significantly.

Over the first 10 months of 2017, HKIA’s cargo throughput soared 9.9 per cent from the same period in 2016 to 4.01 million tonnes.

On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA, the world’s busiest cargo hub, handled 4.88 million tonnes, a climb of 9.8 per cent on the previous 12 months.
