60 Seconds With… Chris Richman

Chris is the newest member of the Air Cargo Week team, joining 9 months ago shortly before air cargo Munich. Having started work in the media industry in 2001, he has worked for various consumer and trade publications and also on several big events.
Before joining Air Cargo Week Chris spent the previous 14 years working in Aerospace and Defence media, 7 as a freelancer, specialising in simulation and training. Although he enjoyed that time, he has already found the Air Cargo Industry to be a lot friendlier.

What’s your role at ACW, and what does a typical day look like for you?
Senior Publishing and Events Manager, and although no day is typical, a running theme is listening to industry partners old and new.

What do you enjoy most about working in the air cargo/logistics industry?
How friendly it is — which, having come from a Defence and Aerospace media background, is a very welcome change.

How do you stay informed and inspired in your work?
There is a rather obvious answer here!!

What skill or quality do you think is essential for success in our field?
In media, the keys are, in my opinion, listening and resilience.

Which destination would you love to visit for work or leisure, and why?
Have always loved visiting San Diego and Cape Town for work or leisure.

What’s one thing your colleagues might not know about you?
I was taught to cook by a Michelin-starred chef and represented my country at sport.

One word to describe your work style?
Adaptable

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
Not really one or career specific, just two quotes/pieces of advice that have helped:
“Everything seems impossible until it is done” and “This too shall pass”.

How do you unwind after a busy day?
Play guitar and hit golf balls.

What was your first job, and what did it teach you?
A Saturday job in the bakery in a Sainsbury’s supermarket. Taught me about punctuality, teamwork and communication.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or routine?
Very boring but: lists.

Who inspires you professionally — and why?
My ACW colleagues — small in number but mighty in output and quality.

What motivates you to keep pushing forward on tough days?
A line in a book: “Do the best you can, wherever you are, with whatever you have.”

What’s something quirky or unusual you always keep at your desk?
A Shin Godzilla figure – big fan of most, if not all, the Godzilla films.
